Meet the birds

Located outside Cicero, Indiana, Two Birds Guitarworks is a lutherie shop started and operated by Orion Gordon and Christian Kage. While we each have our own unique designs, we work together to merge craftsmanship and artistry with modern building and engineering methods. Each instrument we create is a milestone on our journey to innovate and further contribute to the wider conversation of what the boutique acoustic guitar can be.

In my childhood I spent a lot of time woodworking with my grandpa whenever I was over to visit him. From an early age this inspired me to look for as many hands on projects as possible. Later on I discovered my love for music, and learned to play an assortment of instruments, guitar being chief among them. From there I discovered lutherie and how I could couple my interest in music with building things, truly being fascinated by the acoustic engineering.

Today, building acoustic guitars is the ultimate culmination of that fascination. Mixing the detailed aesthetic work of the craft and the engineering to get the best tone possible, I strive to build instruments that stand out from the rest.

“Growing up I was surrounded by the music of the 1950s and 60s, had access to my dad’s guitars, and had a general interest in both creating things as well as taking things apart to see how they worked. Once I figured out that a love of music, guitars, and the act of creating something could be combined in the world of lutherie, the rest was history.

I attribute my love of archtop guitars both to their ‘challenge’ to build along with the music of my childhood. While I enjoy building the occasional flattop as well, archtops bring me the most satisfaction as a luthier. I see them as the type of guitar whose potential has yet to be fully realized, and with each one I build I’m excited to be a part of their journey towards this realization.”
